CCBD Position Summary Goes to the Hill

May 25,2009

CCBD has recently authors a Position Paper on Restraint and Seclusion  as well as a White Paper on use of restraint and a White Paper on the use of seclusion.

Both documents are available here
and were distributed on May 19, 2009 to the House Committee on Education and Labor for a hearing to examine abusive and deadly uses of seclusion and restraint in U.S. schools. Seclusion and restraint are physical interventions used by teachers and other school staff to prevent students from hurting themselves or others.

An archived webcast of the full committee hearing is now available.

Listen to an National Public Radio report from May 19th, 2009 about discipline methods that endanger students with disabilities.

The National Public Radio website also has  "Discipline Success Stories" from George Sugai and CCBD board member Bev Johns, and a link to two 15 minute NPR programs with Deb Ziegler and Joseph Shapiro.
